Two new exhibits in time for Easter at Royal Saskatchewan Museum

Exhibits now open include Saskatchewan - North to Â鶹´«Ã½AV as well as Animal Sounds.

REGINA - The Royal Saskatchewan Museum has unveiled two new exhibits in time for visitors this Easter break.

One display is called Saskatchewan - North to Â鶹´«Ã½AV and it is located in the Life Science Gallery.

This exhibit encourages people to explore Saskatchewan's four ecozones and 11 ecoregions through an interactive display. The various regions light up on a large map, while on the other side is a video wall which will display natural scenes specific to that area.

The other new exhibit is the Animal Sounds interactive display. Here, visitors can listen to eight different audio files recorded in natural settings from the province's four eco regions.

Also included is an interactive guessing game of 58 animals making various random sounds, giving visitors a chance to guess which animal it is before playing a video to reveal the answer.

Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Alana Ross spoke to reporters about the importance of celebrating the diversity of the land.

“We have such a beautiful province, we have so many wonderful people here, and these exhibits tell the story of Saskatchewan, and the animals we can find and it celebrates the diversity,” Ross said. “It’s wonderful we have our museum that providing those displays and encouraging people to check out all parts of our province.”

Dr. Ryan Fisher, Curator of Vertebrate Zoology at the museum, said it took a year and a half to put the animal exhibit together. That included going out into the field to collect audio samples through microphones and then coming up with the videos, to make people feel like they are in nature.

“We really wanted people to connect with nature and being able to go home after their visit to the museum and think about all the sounds that they hear and the landscapes they see and being able to connect that to their experience at the museum.”

These are just some of the attractions that are being offered at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum just in time for the Easter break.

Other programming which will be specific to the Easter break include the SaskTel Be Kind Online Learning Lab: All About Eggs, April 18-27 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Scotty's Dino Egg Hunt, also April 18 to April 27; and various events on Earth Day 2025 at the museum on Tuesday, April 22.
