REGINA - The colour orange was on prominent display Friday as First Nations University of Canada held its annual Community Smudge Walk.
The event was held in advance of National Truth and Reconciliation Day on Sept. 30 and is to honour residential school survivors and those that did not make it home.
About a couple of hundred participants including students from the university and from the surrounding community took part. The began just outside the entrance to the First Nations University of Canada and the route ultimately made its way around the entire University of Regina campus, with participants wearing orange shirts.
As part of the event, there was a major corporate partnership announcement. The Co-operators confirmed it has donated $390,000 in a funding agreement to support programming for the First Nations University Career Centre, done in support of reconciliation.
