Weyburn police is investigating a report of a stolen bag from a city motel, with several valuable personal items in the bag.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 78 calls for service during the period of March 11-17, resulting in a total of 21 charges. Of the charges, five were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 15 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the provincial Vehicle Equipment Regulations. Of the five criminal charges, three were in relation to individuals who either failed to comply with a condition of their release or failed to attend court as required.

An individual checking into a motel room on Friday afternoon reported that one of her bags was stolen. After moving two of her bags into the room she was checking into, she noticed a third bag that was left outside the room momentarily was gone. The bag contained several personal items including a MacBook, iPad, and a significant amount of U.S. cash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service.

A vehicle stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Government Road and Souris Avenue on Saturday afternoon was side-swiped. The action was by a blue four-door car that came up alongside the vehicle and made a right-hand turn. The offending vehicle appeared to be driven by an elderly woman. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service.

With 15 charges under the TSA, as well as an individual charged criminally for impaired driving, the majority of the week’s charges resulted from traffic-related issues. Of the 15 charges laid under the TSA, 10 were related to speed, three were related to disobeying a stop sign or traffic signal, one was related to failing to wear a seatbelt, and one was related to failing to obey the direction of a police officer.

On Thursday evening, while the Weyburn Police Service was conducting a High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) traffic project, a driver who approached the traffic project, failed to follow the direction of an officer and turned to drive away from the officer. The vehicle stopped at the next traffic light and the officer was able to catch up to the vehicle on foot. The driver was very reluctant to obey the officer’s commands but eventually did comply resulting in a charge of impaired driving. The adult male has an upcoming court date to answer to the charge.

The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.

*Anyone with information regarding one of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250, the local RCMP Detachment at 310-RCMP (7267), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
