Weyburn police have busy week, charges man for assault

Weyburn police learned a male had been assaulted and further investigation led to the arrest of another adult male, who was charged for assault and released on conditions.

Weyburn police arrested a man, after a complaint that an injured man was found outside on a doorstep after being assaulted.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 71 calls for service during the period of May 13 to 19, resulting in a total of 55 charges. Of the charges, 43 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 11 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations (VER).

In the early morning hours of Friday, police received a call of a male lying in the street. Police, as well as EMS personnel, attended and located an injured male on the front step of a residence. Police learned the male had been assaulted and further investigation led to the arrest of another adult male. A man was charged for assault and released on conditions to have no contact with the victim, and to appear in court on an upcoming date.

Also in the early morning hours of May 17, police received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle at a local business that was being driven by a suspected impaired driver. Police attended and located the suspect vehicle which was parked at the business. Officers spoke to several adults connected to the vehicle, resulting in several charges as the driver was found to be impaired and a loaded firearm was located inside the vehicle.

Police responded to reported domestic assault on Saturday, resulting in an adult male being arrested and charged with assault by choking, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats. The male was released from custody on conditions and with an upcoming court date.

Also on Saturday, the Weyburn Police Service received a complaint of intimate images being distributed on social media without consent. Investigation led to an adult male being arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada. The male was released on conditions and with an upcoming court date.

The Weyburn Police Service conducted a High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) project on the long weekend focusing on traffic safety. A total of 114 vehicles were checked during the HVE, resulting in one driver being charged for impaired driving, one driver receiving a 72-hour roadside suspension, and two tickets issued for traffic offences under the Traffic Safety Act.

In the early morning hours of May 15, officers on patrol noticed two individuals in an alley who fled on foot upon seeing the police vehicle. A short time later, police responded to a residence in which a homeowner reported unwanted people in his backyard. Police located and arrested a female on the property for trespassing at night as well as failing to comply with a condition of her release. She was released from custody later in the morning with an upcoming court date.

Also on Wednesday, the Weyburn Police Service assisted Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan with executing a search warrant on a residence within the city. As a result of the search warrant and investigation, two adult females were charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for offences related to the care of an animal. Both were released by a Justice of the Peace with conditions including an upcoming court date.

On Wednesday evening, police received a RID complaint (Report Impaired Drivers) reporting a vehicle that was swerving all over the road. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver displayed signs of impairment and further investigation resulted in an adult male from Manitoba being charged for impaired operation of a conveyance. The driver was also found to have a Learner driver’s license and was charged under the TSA for driving without being accompanied by a qualified driver. The male was released from custody to appear in court at a later date, and his vehicle was impounded.

The Weyburn Police also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s well-being, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
