WEYBURN – A sale of specially-made doughnuts was held from Friday to Sunday at the Tim Horton’s store in Weyburn, with all of the proceeds to go to the Special Olympics programs in Weyburn.
A number of Special Olympics participants were on hand over the weekend, to help make the doughnuts, along with volunteers with the program.
On Saturday, the participants included Christopher Keller, Elias Pick, Robin Stelter and Leah Whitrow, along with coach Jo Ann Paxman.
She noted currently there is a bowling league for Special Olympics participants, held once a week at the bowling alley.
Plans are to have bocci ball for them this summer, and to see a return to floor hockey again, as long as there are enough volunteers and qualified coaches who can lead them.
Meanwhile, Stelter is preparing to leave on Feb. 26 for bowling nationals in Calgary, as she will be part of Team Saskatchewan, and will be back by March 3.
She was fortunate in that the funds to help pay for her trip came in almost right away once she qualified, said Paxman, and she will be accompanying Stelter as her coach to the competition. This will be Stelter’s first time to compete at the national level.
