WEYBURN – The Weyburn Soccer Association had the adult soccer wind up on Saturday, then the Adult All-Abilities team played against the Regina Special Olympics Raiders on Sunday.
The two teams played a total of three games, and this was the first-ever real game for the adult all-abilities players since the program started.
Weyburn was the first association in the province to have an all-abilities team.
“These athletes loved being able to play against another team,” said Tyler Hillstead, coach of the all-abilities team.
“The best part was the friendship that occurred before and after the games. Sport has an incredible power to bring people together and that was proven on Sunday between these two teams,” he added. “It’s been almost two years since some of these players have had the opportunity to compete and they definitely enjoyed playing and the social parts of the day.”
Meanwhile, the last week of April is when Weyburn Soccer will start play outdoors. Hillstead noted most groups will be outdoors, “with exceptions for some of our younger programs, who we will keep inside this year due to some field maintenance that will be happening.”
