Soo Line Cruisers take car show to Weyburn long-term care homes

Members of Weyburn's Soo Line Cruisers car club had a mobile car show on Sunday afternoon, as they drove by the city's long-term care homes to give the residents a treat to see their classic and vintage cars. They drove by Bison Manor, Tatagwa View, Weyburn Special Care Home, the Legion Towers and Hill Top Manor.

Weyburn Independent Riders collect toys for Salvation Army

The Weyburn Independent Riders held their annual Toy Run on Saturday for the Salvation Army, as they rode throughout the city, including through the downtown area, and ended at River Park for the final collection. A representative of the Salvation Army was on hand to accept the donations, including cash donations. The group's sleigh had been stationed for two days at Wal-Mart to collect toy and cash donations prior to the Toy Run.

Singer Karissa Hoffart and her band performed a free concert at Nickle Lake Regional Park on Saturday evening, in the last event planned for the 2022 summer season at the park. Singer Justin Labrash also played later on that evening. Hoffart noted she came to the park with her family as a young girl, and hopes to one day bring her children there as well.

A peek into the past with old-time threshing bee on Griffin farm

The past came alive on the Glen and Suzanne Stomp farm at Griffin on Sunday afternoon, as they opened their mini-heritage village and held an old-time threshing bee. They had many displays of historical items in the village, including blacksmithing and rope-making demos, and in the field adjacent, a horse-drawn hay rack picked up stooks of wheat sheaves, and had them put through an old threshing machine powered by a belt to an antique tractor.

The Aurora Borealis, or the Northern light, were shimmering and dancing brightly on Saturday night in the skies in the Weyburn area. The Earth has been hit in recent days with a solar storm from the sun, and the phenomenon was particularly bright on Saturday, visible as soon as a person left the light pollution of their community to look to the northern skies.

Riders of all ages take part in two-day Griffin Horse Show

Horse enthusiasts of all ages took part in a variety of riding events at the Griffin Horse Show, held on Saturday and Sunday on a farm near Griffin. Events included showmanship, halter classes, western and English riding classes and a gymkhana, with prizes awarded to the top riders.
