Assiniboia Park students back on ice learning about curling

Students in Grades 5 and 6 from Assiniboia Park Elementary School spent the morning at the Weyburn Curling Rink learning the basics of curling, from throwing a rock to sweeping. Teachers and parent volunteers had groups of students on each sheet of ice as they went through exercises in how to throw a rock, how to read the skip's directions and how to sweep a shot.

Family Fun Night fundraiser held by Weyburn early learning centres

The Legacy Park and Sunrise Early Learning Centres held a successful fundraiser, a family fun night on New Year's Eve at the Knox Hall in Weyburn. Richy Roy provided a magic show and DJ services, and carnival games were set up around the hall where kids could try their luck to win prizes. The funds raised will go towards completing the outdoor play spaces for the two day cares, located at Legacy Park and at the Weyburn Comp schools.

Weyburn Wildlife Federation holds New Year's fish derby

Just over 100 fishermen and women registered to take part in the first-ever New Year's Day fish derby, hosted by the Weyburn Wildlife Federation at Nickle Lake. With a moderate temperature around -13 and little wind, conditions were perfect for the derby, which offered prizes for the biggest pike, pickerel and perch, in adult and youth categories.
