Assiniboia residents awarded Queen Platinum Jubilee medal

Six provinces had re-established Jubilee Medals of their own, each with the same ribbon, overall design and criteria.

ASSINIBOIA - A number of Assiniboia residents were recognized for their contributions and achievements, and were awarded with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in Swift Current on January 20.

The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Saskatchewan to honour the late Queen for her service to Canada, while also recognizing the significant contributions and achievements by Saskatchewan citizens.

Assiniboia award recipients included: Destin Ash, Tim Dlouhy (accepted by his son Judd), Donna Fiset, Krista Kelly, Alison Lewis, Alice Wald, Dr. Victor Carulei, Linda Hall, Jason Berner, Curtis Nelson, Howard Ellis, and Norman Nordgulen.

Also recognized were Sharleine Eger of Willow Bunch and Gwen Kowalski, Christopher Costley and Greg Nagel of Mossbank.

As part of the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II ascending the throne as Queen of Canada, this long tradition of creating commemorative medals has continued. In absence of a federal Platinum Jubilee Medal program, six provinces had re-established Jubilee Medals of their own, each with the same ribbon, overall design and criteria.

All awards were presented by Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty.
