ESTEVAN - Top golfers from across Saskatchewan continued to show their skills Wednesday during the second round of the senior men’s and women’s golf championships, as well as the mid-masters men’s event, being played at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.
In the senior men’s event, Colin Corbert of the Valleyview Delisle Golf and Country Club is first with a two-round total of 141, after shooting a 73 in the second round. He sits four strokes ahead of Rick Hallberg of Weyburn, competing out of Golf Kenosee, who also had a 73 in the second round and has a 36-hole mark of 145.
Brent Wotypka of the Elmwood Golf Club in Swift Current is third at 147 after shooting a 71, which was the low round of the day.
Also competing in senior men’s are James Gordon of Woodlawn, who shot a 74 to sit 10th after two rounds with a 153; David Lavoie is tied for 17th with a 157 through two rounds; Paul Grimes of Golf Kenosee is 23rd with a 158; Michael Ross of Woodlawn is tied for 27th with a 160 total; Jim Larter is 37th with a two-round total of 170; Jim Wilson is tied for 41st at 177; and Trevor Gessner is 45th with a 182.
Brian Hank, who had a 76 in the first round, did not compete in the second.
As for the mid-masters, Chris Reid of Meadow Lake continues to hold the lead after shooting a 76 in the second round, leaving him at even-par 144 through two rounds.
He sits one stroke ahead of Hallberg, who had a 73 in Round 2 and has a two-round total of 145. Wotypka is third at 147.
Among the others entered are Kirs Carley of the Carnduff Golf Club, who is in fourth place at 150 through two rounds; James Gordon of Woodlawn, who is seventh at 153; Tony Heath of Woodlawn, ninth, 159; Michael Ross of Woodlawn, 10th, 160; Warren Waldegger of Woodlawn, tied for 13th, 165; and Dallas Kurtz of Woodlawn, 19th, 181.
In the senior women’s division, defending champion Kim Walker, competing out of Regina’s Wascana Country Club, continues to hold the lead. Walker shot an 80 in the second round and sits at 153 through 36 holes.
Lorie Boyle of the Hilllcrest Golf Club in Moose Jaw and Tamara Harasen of Regina are tied for second at 159. Boyle shot an 81 in Round 2, while Harasen had an 83.
The third and final round for the three tournaments will be contested Thursday. Prizes will be handed out after the tournament.
