Estevan U13 Bearcats 2 advance to the next round

Bearcats 2 will face the Parkland Fire in the next round

Local female minor hockey teams are now in playoffs.

The Estevan Power Dodge U13 A Bearcats 2 have advanced to the second round of the playoffs in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

Estevan swept the Madville Huskies in two straight, winning 5-2 at the Power Dodge Arena on Friday and 6-2 two days later in Midale.  

Kendall Grimes, Chelsea Madsen and Dannie Eaton scored in the first period for Estevan of Game 1, and Eaton and Haven Bourassa scored in the third. 

Kellie Martin and Chloe Tuchscherer had goals for Madville, which boasts players from the Midale and Radville areas. 

In Game 2, Bourassa had three goals, all in the second period, and Kaybree Fonstad scored twice. Grimes had the other Estevan goal.

Autumn Snider and Lily Hlavka scored for the Huskies.  

Baya Summers was in goal for both games for Estevan, while Myra Field was the Madville goalie.  

Estevan was third in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Division in the regular season, while Madville was sixth.

The Bearcats 2 will play the second-ranked Parkland Fire in the next round. Game 1 is slated for March 6 in Melville, Game 2 is March 11 at Affinity Place at 7 p.m., and Game 3, if necessary, would be two days later in Melville.

Meanwhile, the Estevan Power Dodge U13 A Bearcats 1 finished their regular season with a 5-4 loss to the Lumsden-Bethune Purple Lynx Wednesday at the Power Dodge Arena. 

Katie Sauder had two goals for Estevan, while Ruby Graf and Halle Lozinsky also scored. The Bearcats 1 trailed 4-1 at one point but fought back to make the game interesting.  

Taylor Short was in goal. 

The Bearcats 1 will play the Moose Jaw Mavericks in a showdown between the fourth and fifth place teams from the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Central Division in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 is March 4 in Lampman at 7:45 p.m., and Games 2 and 3, if necessary, would be the next day in Moose Jaw. Estevan would be the designated home team for Game 3.

The Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Aaron Well Servicing U18 AA Goldwings wrapped up their regular season last Tuesday with a 3-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds in Midale. 

After Notre Dame opened the scoring in the second, Katelyn Thackeray scored to tie the game, and then McKenna Walls and Madi Doud added goals in the third. 

Phoenix Preston-Winder was in goal for the Wings. 

The Goldwings finished second in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Division of the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League with a 14-6-4 record. They went 14-3-3 in their last 20 games. 

They will play the Swift Current Wildcats in the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Division semifinal. Game 1 will be March 6 in Midale at 2 p.m. Game 2 is set for March 11 in Swift Current, and Game 3, if necessary would be two days later in Midale at 2 p.m.

The two southeast entries in the U18 A division are facing elimination in their respective series.

The Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast TS&M Gold Wings, seeded eighth, lost 13-1 to the top-ranked Prairie Storm Thunder on Saturday in Emerald Park. Delainy Knoll had the Goldwings lone goal. 

Karley Martin was the goalie. 

Game 2 is slated for March 4 in Midale at 6 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, would be two days later in Pilot Butte. 

The Carlyle Wildcats, ranked No. 6, lost 5-2 to the No. 3 Balcarres Barracudas on Sunday in Balcarres. Kasenya Einarson and Jaycene Willms had the Carlyle goals. 

Rylie Scott was the goalie. 

Game 2 is slated for March 4 at 8 p.m. in Carlyle. Game 3 would be the next day in Balcarres.

The Estevan Â鶹´«Ã½AVland Pulse U15 A Bearcats, ranked sixth in the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Division, lost 3-2 in overtime to the No. 3 Prairie Ice in Canora in Game 1 of their series. 

Jenna Emmel and Presley Hollingshead scored in the third period to help Estevan rally from a 2-0 deficit and tie the game. Hollingshead’s goal came with 57 seconds to play in regulation. 

The Ice scored the winner in the third overtime period. 

Casey Brady was in goal. 

Game 2 is set for March 5 in Arcola at 11:30 a.m. Game 3 would be the next day in Canora.

The Estevan Senchuk U11 A Bearcats 1 closed out their regular season with a 1-0 win over the Madville Huskies in Torquay to finish the season at 10-4-6, second in the East Division.

The Senchuk U11 A Bearcats 2 were third in the East Division at 8-7-5.
