ESTEVAN - A popular spring sporting tradition in Estevan is set to make its return to the community in April.
The Estevan Strippers Spring Bust tournament is slated for April 6-10 at Affinity Place, the Power Dodge Arena and the Bienfait Memorial Arena. Forty men’s and women’s teams are expected to compete between the tournament’s different divisions, with at least 20 squads coming from out of town.
The competition has been the largest recreation hockey tournament in the province.
The return of the tournament was brought up at Monday night’s meeting of Estevan council, with the Strippers seeking a special event permit. Steve Godfrey with the tournament’s organizing committee said the Strippers want to make sure all the teams, along with the people of Estevan and area, can have a great time during this event.
The Strippers were looking to use the Power Dodge Curling Centre for the beer garden, and to have the games at local arenas. Council unanimously approved the request, with Councillor Shelly Veroba noting that the Strippers do great things in the community with the money raised through the tournament’s cabarets.
The tournament was last held in 2019. It was unable to proceed the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
