WEYBURN — For the first time in 13 years, the Weyburn Red Wings will play in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Final.
Josh Sale scored 5:08 into the first overtime to lead the Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Flin Flon Bombers to capture their Semi-Final series in six games.
Ryder Mucha opened the scoring for the Bombers in the first period before Max Chakrabarti and Lucas Schmid gave the Wings a one goal lead after 40 minutes.
Joey Lies forced overtime with a one-time marker with 10:33 left in regulation.
Angelo Zol stopped 41 of 43 shots in the Red Wings goal in the win, while Bombers netminder Matthew Kieper made 38 saves on 41 shots in his final Junior game.
Weyburn will visit the Melfort Mustangs in Game 1 of their Best of 7 Canterra Seeds Cup Final Saturday night at the Northern Lights Palace starting at 7:30 PM.
