CARLYLE - Sixty-four golfers enjoyed beautiful weather last weekend as the Carlyle Golf Club held a fundraising tournament.
The event took place to raise funds to assist in the purchase of new tarps for the greens and a new debris blower. Generous business and personal donations were provided, and all entrants were treated to burgers, water and coffee, which were part of their nominal entry fee.
This was a two-person best ball tournament and was non-competitive. The only winners were all those who participated. There were some individual hole prizes.
- Closest to the pin on hole three: Tannis Keeley and Jamie Barnett;
- Closest to the pin on hole five: Glenda Lequyer and Kerr Cudmore;
- Women’s long putt on hole nine: Lori Wyatt; and
- Men’s long putt on hole nine: Shayne McAuley.
Many of the door prizes donated were rather impressive. Jessica Lees and Mike Oblander were the lucky winners of several of them. One of the prizes Lees won was the barbecue smoker donated by board member Shayne McAuley. Oblander won the mystery prize which was a Yeti Cooler. Jenna Jensen won the $310 pot of gold.
Clubhouse manager Terri Field was impressed with how the day went.
“We had ideal conditions to kick off our season. The golfers varied in age from high school to old school. Everyone had a chance to win a wonderful prize which were donated by various businesses, both locally and out of town.
“Thank- you so much to these businesses for your donations which go a long way in making our participants go home happy. While the final profits for the day are not known at this time, the funds will certainly go a long way towards the planned purchase of golf tarps and a debris blower.
“Also, a big thank-you to the organizers, cookers, and staff for keeping the golfers fed, hydrated and happy.”
