WEYBURN – Awards for Grades 7 to 9 students were presented at St. Michael School, the first time in two years they have been able to hold the ceremonies, along with awards and scrolls for the graduating Grade 9 class, on Wednesday evening.
The Grade 7 general proficiency award went to Elizabete Sirante and the Grade 8 general proficiency award went to David Sorowski. The Grade 7 religious knowledge award went to Haroun Mathew, and for Grade 8 went to Lily Popescu.
The leadership awards, presented from each homeroom, went to Samara Seghers and Tucker C. in Grade 7, and Sophie W. and Lily Popescu in Grade 8.
The most promising brass award went to Marlie Fleck, the most promising woodwind award was presented to Isaiah Perdis, and the most promising percussion award went to Ariana Reitze-Andres.
The Best Performer award went to Harper Williams, and the most promising performer award went to Jersey Buehler.
The coaches award for boys A basketball went to Beau Vilcu, and for girls A basketball to Brooke Thue. The girls A volleyball award went to Falon Jordens, and the boys A volleyball award went to Jovin Cleasby.
The badminton award went to Atasha Recto and the track and field award went to Gavin Bedore.
The male athlete of the year was Kingston Cox, and the female athlete of the year was Cadence Wawro.
The Grade 9 general proficiency award went to Anushka Raulji, and the religious knowledge award to Yuan Presto.
The awards of excellence, presented to students who achieved academic proficiency for their three junior high years, were presented to Falon Jordens, Marin Kurtz and Anushka Raulji.
The Yearbook Award went to Pauleen Malpaya. The SRC leadership awards went to Falon Jordens, Marin Kurtz and Brooke Thue.
The Jerry Jordens Work Ethic Award, presented by former principal Jerry Jordens, was given to a student with a great work ethic who strives to succeed and shows consistency in effort. The recipient was Pauleen Malpaya.
The Don LaRocque-Denis Tremblay Citizenship Award was presented to Andrea Ochavo. The St. Michael School Award went to Falon Jordens.
Tiger badges were presented to Grade 9 students who have earned at least 80 tiger points through extracurricular activities from Grades 6-9. The recipients were Ashley Ganczar, Eddie Nelson, Falon Jordens, Marin Kurtz, Pauleen Malpaya, Yuan Presto, Jackie Soles and Brooke Thue.
The Grade 9 class received scrolls at the end of the evening, and a powerpoint showing photos of each grad was shown.
The class includes Sabrina Dela Cruz, Ashley Ganczar, Jake Hicks, Falon Jordens, Jaxson Kot, Marin Kurtz, Josh Malalay, Pauleen Malpaya, Eddie Nelson, Andrea Ochavo, Yuan Presto, Seth Purdue, Anushka Raulji, Julia Santos, Jacqueline Soles, Jayden Stang, Brook Thue, Hana Tran and Beau Vilcu.
