WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 63 calls for service during the week of Nov. 8 to 14, resulting in a total of 22 charges. Of the charges, 15 are under the Criminal Code of Canada and seven under the Traffic Safety Act. The criminal charges include theft, assault, mischief, forcible confinement, uttering threats, impaired driving, and failing to comply with either a court order or a condition of their release.
The week kicked off with an urgent response to a medical emergency involving a suspected drug overdose. Officers jumped a fence to gain access to a home and administer several doses of Narcan to an unconscious male prior to EMS arrival. Fortunately the male regained consciousness, was treated on scene by EMS personnel, and transferred to the Weyburn General Hospital for further care.
An adult male faces several charges including assault, forcible confinement, and uttering threats, following a reported incident occurring mid-week. The complaint was received after the male had left the scene but officers were able to locate the male and take him into custody. The male was also charged with failing to comply with a condition of his release and was held in custody to appear in court.
Officers responded to an urgent call of a domestic dispute in progress involving physical violence and a knife. Officers arrived in time to intervene and take an adult male into custody. The male was charged with assault and an additional charge of mischief after causing damage to a wall at the Weyburn Police Service facility. Although a knife was involved, it was not used or threatened toward the victim.
A two-vehicle collision occurred later Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14) at the intersection of Highway 39 and Third Street which resulted in minor injuries, both vehicles being towed, and an adult female being charged with failing to yield.
A young driver was charged with driving without due care and attention following a two-vehicle collision resulting in minor injuries. The youth failed to stop and rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped at an intersection.
An adult female faces a charge of theft after police received a call from a local business. The female, who police already had in custody for an outstanding warrant, was charged accordingly and released with an upcoming court date.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute involving an adult male and female. Officers were able to mediate the dispute with the male agreeing to stay elsewhere for the night. While dealing with the dispute, a check revealed the male had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrant was dealt with and the male was released with an upcoming court date in Regina.
A young male faces charges of impaired driving after failing to stop at a stop sign and striking another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
During the week, four individuals were charged for either failing to comply with a court order or a condition of their release.
Officers also responded to a variety of other calls including domestic disputes, noise complaints, requests for wellbeing checks, mental health concerns, alarms, and traffic related matters.
