The Weyburn Police Service responded to 81 calls for service during the week of September 6-12, resulting in a total of 20 charges. Of the charges, four were under the Traffic Safety Act, four under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act, one under the City of Weyburn bylaws, and 11 under the Criminal Code of Canada.
On Monday morning, officers responded along with other emergency services to a reported vehicle versus medichair collision. The individual operating the medichair was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital with minor injuries.
Officers also conducted several compliance checks on individuals with curfew conditions with no charges resulting.
A traffic stop conducted late Tuesday evening resulted in an adult male being charged with impaired driving. The male was released with an upcoming court date.
On Wednesday afternoon, officers responded to a medical emergency involving a suspected overdose. Fortunately, the adult male was revived by EMS personnel. Police also attended a local residence at the request to remove an unwanted guest that was refusing to leave. Upon arrival, the occupants advised that the guest left willingly after the call to police was made.
On Thursday morning, police received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in a parking lot. The pedestrian was knocked down but otherwise okay. The driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Unsafe Backing.
Officers executed a search warrant on a local residence on Friday resulting in an adult male facing several drug charges including trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime. The male was released with an upcoming court date.
On Saturday, officers responded to a reported vehicle versus bicyclist collision. The driver advised the bicyclist was not paying attention and ran into the side of the car, then got up and biked away. The young bicyclist was located and found to be okay. Also on Saturday, several dog complaints were reported resulting in one owner being charged under the city bylaw.
On Sunday, an individual was found to be breaching a condition of their release. The individual was charged accordingly and released with an upcoming court date. Police also attended to a report of two heavily intoxicated individuals that were passed out in a public area. Both individuals were taken into custody and released without charges when sober.
