WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 55 calls for service during the period of April 18 through April 24, resulting in a total of 18 charges. Of the charges, 15 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and three under the Traffic Safety Act. The police are investigating a number of thefts, and charges included individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a kayak stolen from a residential property. The kayak is a blue and white Pelican Sentinel. Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service.
The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint from a local business on April 21 who fell victim to a fraud, which resulted in the loss of a significant amount of money. The matter is under investigation.
In the early morning hours of April 22, police responded to a residential break-and-enter in progress. Upon arrival, police learned that an altercation occurred involving a weapon. Through investigation, police located and arrested two individuals who were both charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and failing to comply with conditions of their release.
On Friday afternoon, police received a report of a theft of fuel at a local gas station. The investigation into this matter is ongoing but suspects have been identified and charges are pending.
During the week, police responded to a domestic assault involving threats of harm. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two individuals who now face charges of assault and mischief. Both individuals were released with upcoming court dates.
In the early morning hours of April 23, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver of the vehicle was found to be impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested and charged accordingly.
Of special note, the Weyburn Police Service, in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, is launching an initiative on Friday, April 29, as informative door-hangers will be distributed to the residents of Weyburn and area regarding mental health awareness and support.
