WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service experienced an average week in call volume, responding to 89 calls for service during the period of April 4-10, resulting in 10 charges. Of the charges, five were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act, and two under the City of Weyburn bylaw.
A storage business located on 12th Street had a number of storage lockers broken into between April 4-10. Police were notified and are still investigating the two incidents. Anyone that has any information on these two incidents is asked to contact the police office at 306-848-3250.
A member of the Weyburn Police Service initiated a traffic stop in front of the Leisure Centre located on Fifth Street on April 5 at approximately 11:30 a.m. A no-contact or communication order was discovered after police checks were completed.
Subsequently the male passenger of the vehicle was arrested for breaching his probation order. He was taken to the police station for processing and subsequently released on an appearance notice for a court date in June.
Police conducted a traffic stop in front of 315 Coteau Avenue on April 7 shortly before 6 p.m. The driver of the vehicle exhibited signs of impairment. An alcohol screening device test was performed, and the driver of the vehicle failed.
The female driver was transported to the police station where she was issued a three-day license suspension after being administered a breathalyzer test.
A second three-day driver’s suspension and vehicle impoundment occurred the next night, April 8, just shortly before 9 p.m. A driver of a vehicle conducted an illegal U-turn and was pulled over in the area of Fifth Avenue and King Street. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana previously and the officer performed a Standard Field Sobriety Test, which resulted in a fail for the driver. The driver was issued a three-day suspension as the result of the test.
The Weyburn Police want to remind drivers to slow down and drive cautiously with the upcoming bad weather that is forecasted. Give yourselves an extra 10 to 15 minutes so that you can arrive safely at your destination.
