Weyburn police investigate an assault with a weapon

Weyburn police were busy with 107 calls for service in the week of May 16-22.

WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 107 calls for service during the period of May 16 to 22, resulting in a total of 28 charges.  Of the charges, 22 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and six under the Traffic Safety Act.

Police received a call through 911 that an individual was assaulted and threats of harm were made late Saturday night. Through investigation it was determined that two suspects assaulted the victim and a weapon was involved. This matter is still under investigation and charges are pending. 

Two individuals entered several vehicles and stole contents from those vehicles on May 17 in the early morning hours. Through police investigation the two suspects were identified, located and arrested. The two individuals were both charged with one count of theft from motor vehicle, two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. Both individuals were remanded in custody.

Police would like to remind the public to not leave anything of value inside their vehicles and to ensure their vehicle is locked at all times.

The Weyburn Police Service held a car seat clinic on May 16. The Weyburn Police Service has a member specifically trained to install and inspect car seats. Anyone is welcome to contact or attend to Weyburn Police Service to book an appointment to have a car seat installed or inspected.

Police responded to a vehicle collision on May 18 in the central area of the city. There were no injuries as a result of the collision. One driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to yield.

A member of WPS conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation. It was found that the driver of the vehicle was on release conditions that did not allow him to have contact with the passenger of the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested and released for a future court date. 

Police received a report of a break and enter to a garage on May 20. Several items were stolen from the garage. The matter is still under investigation. 

While on patrol on May 21, police observed two individuals who were known to be on release conditions to not have contact with each other walking down the street. Both individuals were arrested for failing to comply with release conditions as well as for thefts from previous matters. Both individuals were released with future court dates.
