WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 70 calls for service during the period of Jan. 23 to 29, resulting in a total of 11 charges. Of the charges, three were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and eight under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Two of the criminal code charges resulted from individuals who either failed to comply with a condition of their release or failed to attend court when required to do so.
A two-vehicle collision resulted in one driver being charged with two traffic-related offences after failing to yield and being struck by an oncoming vehicle while attempting a left turn off of First Avenue North. The occupants were not injured but both vehicles sustained significant damage and required towing. The charges included driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
Officers attended a local motel in response to an individual who refused to leave. Motel staff advised that the adult male was no longer renting a room but refused to leave. Officers spoke to the male who was very agitated but left without further incident.
A local business requested police assistance removing an individual who was not welcome in their store due to previous behaviour. The unwanted individual was aware of being banned from the store but attended anyway. Officers spoke to the adult male who complied and left willingly.
Officers responded to a reported domestic dispute in which loud yelling and crying could be heard by the complainant. Officers attended and spoke to the occupants who were having a heated discussion regarding their relationship. The matter was resolved as one of the individuals agreed to stay elsewhere for the night and discuss the matter at another time.
The Weyburn Police Service also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals, parking, or other bylaw concerns.
