WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 87 calls for service during the period of Nov. 14 to 20, resulting in a total of nine charges. Of the charges, two were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and seven under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Other charges are pending further investigation.
As with most weeks, the Weyburn police deal with some animal-related calls such as barking dogs, but this week included an AWOL bovine. Officers attended the Clark Park area after receiving a call advising of a cow roaming the ball diamonds. The cow apparently wandered off from the Livestock Exchange and officers assisted the employees on scene attempting to herd it back home. The cow made a short trek to Wal-mart but eventually followed orders and returned to the Livestock Exchange.
A reported theft from a local business is pending further investigation. Surveillance video showing two individuals pocketing several items and walking out of the store has been provided to the Weyburn Police and charges are likely.
WPS officers responded to a two-vehicle collision just north of Weyburn on Highway 39. A northbound vehicle collided with a vehicle turning off the highway. Both vehicles were severely damaged and required towing, but no injuries were reported. The scene and further investigation was turned over to the RCMP upon their arrival.
An adult female faces a charge of theft after fraudulently obtaining another individual’s online banking details and then signing into the account and removing several hundred dollars. The individual was also found to be breaching a condition of her release and charged accordingly.
Officers responded to a late night call advising that someone was laying in the middle of the street and may need assistance. Officers located an adult male who appeared to have slipped on the ice and suffered a head injury. EMS personnel attended to the individual and transported him to the hospital for further treatment.
Officers also responded to a variety of other calls including alarms, domestic disturbances, suspicious persons or vehicles, mental health concerns, requests to check on an individual’s wellbeing, harassing communications, and calls relating to animals or bylaw concerns.
