WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 74 calls for service during the period of October 30 to November 6, resulting in a total of 20 charges. Of the charges, five were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, two under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, one under the Alcohol Gaming and Regulations Act and 12 under the Traffic Safety Act.
Weyburn police responded to a male passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on Oct. 30 in the early morning hours. During the course of the investigation police arrested the male for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and for impaired operation of a conveyance. The accused male was released with a future court date.
Police conducted a traffic stop on Nov. 2 where the driver was found to have an arrest warrant. Upon arrest police located methamphetamine and weapons on the individual. The individual was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine under the CDSA along with possession of a dangerous weapon.
Weyburn Police Service conducted traffic enforcement in partnership with the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol on Government Road on Sunday evening. Over 300 vehicles went through the check stop.
During the course of the evening four drivers licenses were suspended for 72 hours after testing positive for cannabis on the oral fluid devices. There were also two tickets issued under the Traffic Safety Act.
A member observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Thursday while conducting traffic enforcement. A traffic stop was conducted after the vehicle was found travelling at 104 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The driver was charged under the TSA and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police stopped a vehicle for unregistered license plates on Saturday morning. The driver of the vehicle was found to have consumed alcohol. The driver blew a warning on the approved screening device. It was this driver’s third offence in the past year, and the driver’s license was subsequently suspended by police for 18 months. The driver was also charged for operating an unregistered vehicle and driving without a valid driver’s license.
