WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service experienced a steady week in call volume, responding to 74 calls for service during the period of October 23-29, resulting in a total of 33 charges. Of the charges, 20 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 11 under the Traffic Safety Act, and two under the City of Weyburn Bylaws.
The Weyburn Police Service responded to a break-and-enter at Souris School on Saturday night. As a result, three youths have been charged for break-and-enter, wearing a disguise while committing an offense, and theft under $5,000.
On Monday night officers stopped a vehicle for speeding, and during the stop a female passenger was charged for failing to comply with her release conditions. The male driver of the vehicle was also charged for obstructing an investigation and speeding.
Weyburn Police Service assisted the Weyburn RCMP in a break and enter investigation on Tuesday morning, at a business located in Evanston Park industrial area. The matter remains under investigation.
On Wednesday night, a female reported to police that she had been touched in a sexual manner, resulting in a 20-year-old male being charged under the Criminal Code for sexual assault and failing to comply with his probation order.
A youth was charged on Thursday afternoon for uttering threats via social media to another youth.
Weyburn Police and Weyburn EMS responded to an adult male in medical distress on Friday night. After being cleared by EMS, it was determined that the individual was intoxicated. The male was released to the care of a family member.
Throughout the week traffic enforcement resulted in 11 charges under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA). Of those charges, the majority were for speeding, cell phone use while driving, and expired vehicle registration.
Police would like to remind the public of the importance to update SGI with their current address information, as renewal notices are often sent by mail. SGI requires notification within 15 days of any change of name or address. To update SGI with your current information, you can go to your motor license issuer’s office.
