WEYBURN – Two Weyburn area oil companies gave Christmas presents to the Family Place to help them with their building expansion project, and with ongoing programs.
Kingston Midstream partnered with the Richardson Foundation and donated $60,000 towards the expansion at the Family Place’s new building on McLelland Street, where construction is well underway.
The Family Place has started a new sponsorship program to help fund the construction, and to pay off the mortgage as soon as possible.
“The Family Place’s goal is to find enough sponsors so we can pay the mortgage down quicker, sooner than later. We are looking for sponsors,” said Dawn Gutzke, executive director of the Family Place.
She noted at the location, the walls are up, and the roof trusses arrived recently, so as soon as they’re able, the contractor, Chase Johnson Construction, will get the roof on and enclose the addition so it can be heated, and they can work on it through the winter.
Gutzke said the project is on track for moving in during the month of June.
Of the donation from Kingston Midstream, she said, “It was quite unexpected and overwhelming.”
She also noted this is strictly for the Family Place. The agreement that Family Place has with the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division is for operational funds for the family resource centre that Family Place will be operating.
The second gift was $20,000 from Vermilion Energy, with half of the donation to go towards the Mini-Go preschool program at the Family Place, which will help fund it for the rest of the school year.
The other half will go towards the expansion project.
In addition, going forward, Vermilion Energy has committed to providing $10,000 a year towards the new green space area on the property at McLelland Street, and it will be named the Vermilion Energy Green Space.
Gutzke said anyone who is interested to know more about their sponsorship program can contact her at the Family Place, and she will send out a detailed information package that explains what their needs are, and what the program is about.
