According to the government of Saskatchewan, Highway 39 west of Macoun could be temporarily closed as early as Tuesday, August 2.

The closure is needed to repair the section of highway that has been underwater for much of the spring and summer seasons.

Crews will be working to raise around one km of the highway's driving surface by 0.6 metres.

As a result of the construction, Highway 39 will be closed to traffic from Estevan to Midale. All traffic will be detoured via Highway 13 between Weyburn and Stoughton, and on Highway 47 between Stoughton and Estevan.

Local traffic will still have access and are asked to watch message boards for information.

Construction and repair of Highway 39 south of Estevan continues, and is expected to last until early August, assuming that weather remain favourable.
