Swim, skate or paint mural for Weyburn’s Family Fun Day

The City of Weyburn’s recreation department is encouraging everyone to bring the whole family out on Family Day, which is Monday, Feb. 20 for outdoor and indoor events, with activities ranging from swimming to skating, from art to building a snowman.

WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn’s recreation department is encouraging everyone to bring the whole family out on Family Day, which is Monday, Feb. 20 from 1-5 p.m. for outdoor and indoor events.

The activities available range from swimming to skating, from art to building a snowman.

A $5 family swim will be held at the Weyburn Leisure Centre from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and there will be free skating at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Credit Union Spark Centre will host family-friendly activities, including painting, crafts, wall climbing and more.

Residents can pop in to paint a piece for a community mural from 1 to 2:30 p.m., or for face-painting or a family clay craft, from 1-3 p.m. A family suncatcher craft activity will be available from 3 to 4 p.m.

Characters from the Paw Patrol will be on hand from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be a $2 drop-in at the Spark Centre for regular programming.

Outdoor events include ski and snowshoe rentals from the Spark Centre, skating with the Red Wings and Gold Wings players at Jubilee Park outdoor rink from 2-4 p.m., and Crokicurl from noon to 4:30 p.m. in front of the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

There will also be yard games and hot chocolate available from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Weyburn Arts Council also invites anyone of any age who wishes to take part to click onto the “Rollin’ with the Gnomies!” Facebook page and join, and like any of the photos that show up or go looking for a gnome when it’s posted they’ve been hidden somewhere in the city.

The Arts Council is also going to hold a snowman-building challenge for much the same reason, and give people a chance to win a prize. The challenge will run from Feb. 20 to March 15.

“Starting Family Day (Feb. 20), we will be holding a Snowman Building challenge, inviting community members to build a snowman and send us a picture of it. We will post reels of the snowmen pictures we get. Everyone who sends up a picture will be entered to win a free kids pass to the Spark Centre,” explained curator Regan Lanning.
