Classes set for February at Weyburn's CU Spark Centre

A number of activities and classes are set for the month of February at the Credit Union Spark Centre, including an adult-child clay class set for Feb. 5.

WEYBURN – A number of activities and classes are set for the month of February at the Credit Union Spark Centre.

An adult-child clay class is set for Sunday, Feb. 5, where participants will make a heart-shaped bowl together. The class runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and the bowl will be ready about two weeks after the class.

Art in Session, an art class for children aged six to 13, will be held on three Tuesdays, Feb. 7, 14 and 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will be introduced to a wide variety of art mediums over the three sessions.

An adult pottery class will run over six weeks on Wednesday evenings, from Feb. 8 to March 15, from 6 to 9 p.m.

This educational class will introduce adults to hand-building techniques with clay. All projects will be fired and glazed and ready for pickup two weeks after the class.

This class is a prerequisite for anyone who wishes to take out a membership in the pottery studio, or wishes to join the Pottery Club.

For kids who love science, the second Mad Science class will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10-11 a.m.

The February Break camp will run from Feb. 21-24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, while children are off school.

The day camps will provide a variety of art projects as well as fun recreational activities on Mainil Field.

A “Paint Night” date night activity will be held just prior to Valentine’s, on Friday, Feb. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Curator Regan Lanning will be doing a noon-hour free gallery talk and tour on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the Weyburn Art Gallery.

One of the main features on right now is the James Weir People’s Choice Exhibition, plus there will be an exhibit of works from the City of Weyburn’s permanent art collection. Voting in the People’s Choice exhibition is open all through February, with March 17 the last day for voting.

The Weyburn Arts Council will be holding a public information meeting for Culture Days on Wednesday, Feb. 15, starting at 6 p.m. in the CU Spark Centre. The council is looking for any ideas or input for Culture Days, which will be held on Sept. 22-Oct. 15, 2023.
