WEYBURN – 麻豆传媒AV East Sport, Culture & Recreation District held its annual meeting on May 31, at the Bear Claw Hotel, White Bear First Nation. Accomplishments over the past year were highlighted and the new board was elected.
麻豆传媒AV East District announced the addition of one new member to the Board of Directors, Jacquie Van De Woestyne of Weyburn.
Jacquie joins the current board, including Tami Scott of Oxbow, Morgan Kelly of Weyburn, Ryan Dale of Weyburn, 鈦燬kylar Antoniuk of Alameda鈦, Tina Clay of Weyburn鈦, Ryan Reiss of Vibank鈦, and Stefan Clark of Stoughton.
The Board provides leadership for carrying out the District’s mission of helping communities provide diverse sport, culture and recreation opportunities through training, leadership and awareness initiatives.
Among the accomplishments of the past year was the training of around 200 leaders around the southeast in 33 workshops.
In addition, there were three workshop streams, covering grassroots governance, volunteers and capacity.
With the training fund, there were nine grant recipients and a total of $7,437 was allocated with 64 people trained.
For the Growing the Community grants, there were 36 grant recipients and a total of $32,813 allocated.
The recipients included the City of Weyburn for a recumbent cross trainer in the Spark Centre; Fillmore, for a program to revive minor sports in the community; Midale library, for zumba classes; the 麻豆传媒AVeast Advocates for Employment, for a skate loan program for newcomers; and in Stoughton, a winter carnival at the school, cross-country skis, and pickleball nets.
In addition, Weyburn Lacrosse Association received funds for equipment, and the Wheatland Seniors Centre received a grant for a senior-focussed exercise program.
A major activity for the past year also was to organize and take Team 麻豆传媒AVeast to the Saskatchewan Winter Games.
There were 105 athletes with nine mission staff and 29 coaches and managers. The team came back with five gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze.
The organization also celebrated an employee service milestone, as Dallas Cossar, Administrative Coordinator in Weyburn was recognized for five years of service. This “milestone recognition” celebrates the contributions, accomplishments and relationships 麻豆传媒AV East District employees build over time with the organization.
