REGINA — A Regina man is facing charges after sending emails allegedly threatening the lives of several officials in the province, according to Regina police.
Tobechi Okwuonu, 38, was taken into custody on Friday after an investigation in a report of a threatening email from several people.
Regina police said the email contained “non-specific threats to the lives and safety of government officials and law enforcement,” sent from a fake account.
Two specific people were named in the threats, one an elected official and one an official with the Ministry of Health. Regina police did not make their identities public.
After investigating the messages, Regina police identified Okwuonu as a suspect, executed a search warrant on a residence in the south end of the city, and arrested him without incident.
Okwuonu is facing two charges of uttering threats.
He has been released on strict conditions and will make his first appearance in provincial court on these charges on Dec. 1.
