WEYBURN — The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce will kick off the Christmas season with two attractions, with the Parade of Lights and the opening of the Sparkles tour in River Park.
Bundle up the family and head downtown for the 27th Annual Parade of Lights, taking place on Thursday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
“The Chamber always organizes the Parade of Lights on the first Thursday of December as our way of helping everyone kick off the Holiday Season,” said executive director Larry Heggs.
Local businesses and organizations will “shine” during the Parade of Lights. Entries can be as elaborate or as simple as the business wants, with lights being the most popular way to decorate. With the parade happening after dark, lights are also the best way to make your entry visible.
Participants in the parade are asked not to throw candy from their floats, but they are encouraged to walk beside their float and hand candy out along the route.
Each year, the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce presents an award for “Best Float for Business” and “Best Float for Organization”.
Also, organizers have confirmation that their special guest, Santa Claus, will be the Grand Finale of the Parade.
The parade will line up on the fair grounds at 6:30 p.m., and at 7 will proceed east on Prairie Avenue to Third Street, and will turn at the court house and head south through downtown to Railway Avenue.
The parade will head over to Second Street, and will go north to Bison Avenue to finish up on Government Road.
A map of the Parade route is available on www.weyburnchamber.com.
For 2021, Third Street will be blocked off from Railway to Coteau Avenue in order to eliminate parked cars in the area. It will be a great atmosphere downtown. Organizers encourage everyone to social distance, dress warm, shop local, and enjoy the evening.
Weyburn and area residents are then invited to visit River Park for the Sparkles tour, which opens on Monday, Dec. 6 and will be in place through December until Jan. 3, 2022.
All of the spots in River Park are spoken for, and there is no admission charge to drive through. The lights will come on each evening once the sun goes down.
A special feature this year will be horse and carriage rides through River Park, offered by Falon Brydon, weather permitting. As of Monday, all of the dates being offered are filled. The rides will be held starting on Dec. 8.
