No graves at RGH lot, parking restrictions lifted

Restrictions on parking now lifted at Regina General Hospital as of Saturday, as anomalies turn out to be structural debris and old building materials.

REGINA - There were no graves underneath the Regina General Hospital parking lot.

That is the finding after surveying and geophysical assessments were done at the northwest portion of the visitor lot at the hospital in the past month.

The assessments were done in advance of a potential new parkade being built at the hospital. With those assessments now complete, parking restrictions are being removed as of Saturday, June 25.

According to a news release from Saskatchewan Health Authority, the excavation of anomalies previously identified via ground penetrating radar had revealed structural debris and old building materials including brick, ceramic, fieldstone, glass and mortar.

No evidence of historical burials was found, and no further excavation will be required.

The excavated areas are now filled in, and will be topped with gravel prior to re-opening of the lot. The SHA states that the ministries of Health and SaskBuilds and Procurement will continue to work with SHA on planning the future RGH parkade.
