McIvor new administrator for RM of Estevan

The new administrator for the RM of Estevan No. 5 won't have far to travel when he takes over the position next month.

Kim McIvor, who has spent the past few years in the same position with the RM of Weyburn and RM of Brokenshell, has been hired to replace Greg Hoffort. Hoffort resigned in August to take over as the new CEO of St. Joseph's Hospital.

Kelly Lafrentz, the reeve of the RM of Estevan, said McIvor brings a great deal of experience to the position and should be a good addition to their organization.

"He has 16 years of experience and he's an administrator Superior A so he has the highest qualifications there are for an administrator and matches our outgoing administrator's qualifications," Lafrentz said. "All around I think he'll be a good addition to the RM. He's right up to speed, there shouldn't be much of a transition."

McIvor said he is looking forward to the new job and cited the RM's progressive reputation as one of the reasons he sought the position.

"They have lots of different things going on with the oil and the residential development and the industrial developments and the good relationships they have with the (City of Estevan) I like that working relationship from what I have heard about it so to me those were all positives," McIvor said.

"There is so much diversity in that municipality that isn't available in other places. The challenges and the excitement of that RM are what really appealed to me."

McIvor will take over as administrator Oct. 1 and is looking forward to getting started and learning the ropes of a new RM.

"There is definitely going to be a learning curve because the municipality is so different. That is one thing about municipal governments, especially on the rural side, is that they are so different and so diverse so when you can get a job in an RM like down in Estevan, it is very exciting. I am looking forward to meeting the ratepayers in the municipality and getting to know them and working with them. It's all positives from what I can tell.

"From meeting with the council in my interview, they look like a very good group to work with and I get a feeling that they are very progressive in wanting to make industry in the municipality in the area, not just the RM, grow and prosper. That is the kind of stuff I want to be involved in. I want to see that area and the province grow."
