REGINA — Regina police have arrested one individual following an investigation into a break and enter and theft that occurred at a non-profit organization earlier in November.
On Nov. 19, police were notified that an unlawful entry by one or more people took place overnight at a building on the 1500 block of 12th Avenue, where a local charity is housed.
Suspects took several items during the break-in, including computers and a safe containing gift cards and cash.
Regina police declined to identify the charity that was victim to the crime, but Carmichael Outreach, located on the 1500 block of 12th Avenue, shared a post about the incident on social media on Nov. 22.
“No one was injured and staff and volunteers are safe,” said Carmichael Outreach on Facebook. “However, our laptops and safe are gone, including financial donations awaiting deposit and specific donations set aside for fundraisers.”
Following an investigation, which included review of video footage of the suspect, Regina police identified Kyle Edwards, 34, of Regina as a suspect.
At the time of his arrest on Dec. 8, Edwards was being held on remand at the Regina Correctional Centre on charges related to two other unrelated thefts.
Edwards has been charged with one count each of break, enter and commit theft, breach of release order and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Edwards made a first court appearance on these charges on Dec. 9.
The investigation into the break and enter is still active, said Regina police.
