REGINA — Regina police are reporting that multiple deployments of a taser wielded by an officer occured during an arrest this weekend, according to a statement.
On Nov. 27 at approximately 6 p.m., police responded to a business on the 1100 block of Angus Street following a report of an armed individual refusing to leave the building.
The male was in possession of a knife, and remained non-compliant with police commands once officers arrived.
Police deployed a taser, reportedly multiple times, during the altercation which allowed officers to gain control of the situation and take the man into custody. The suspect sustained minor injuries and the knife was seized by officers.
A second report from the Regina Police Service said that at the time of the man’s arrest, he provided officers with false identification.
Now identified as Douglas Russell, 54, of Regina, he is facing charges of possession of a weapon, identity fraud with intent to avoid arrest and failure to comply with conditions of a release order.
Russell made a first appearance in provincial court on these charges on Monday afternoon.
