REGINA - A GoFundMe campaign is underway to help the family of Sumesh Pulavathil, a 38-year Regina man who died in a collision near Macoun on Wednesday.
The Regina and Saskatoon Malayalee Association organized the campaign. It noted that Pulavathil left behind a grieving family and a shattered community. Pulavathil, a native of Thripunithura, Kerala, India, had come to Saskatoon with his family, and for the past couple of months, they had been residing in Regina.
Pulavathil's family consists of his wife Gayathri Ramdas, and their two children ages 12 and six.
"He was a sociable and generous member of our society, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and spreading positivity wherever he went," the campaign states.
Pulavathil had come to Canada with big dreams for his family, the campaign write-up stated.
"He aspired to provide a better life for his children, particularly to support his son's passion for badminton. He was coaching his son to reach new heights in the sport, nurturing his talents and dreams. Their dreams and aspirations have been shattered with the untimely loss of Sumesh, a loss that can never be compensated."
Gayathri Ramdas, Pulavathil's wife, will be the beneficiary of this fundraiser.
"Sumesh's passing is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of supporting one another in times of need. We invite you to be a part of this compassionate community effort to honour Sumesh's memory and ensure that his family can move forward with the support they need."
As of Friday at 12:30 p.m., the campaign had raised $39,451 of its $75,000 goal, with 739 donors.
