ESTEVAN - A GoFundMe campaign is underway to assist a southeast Saskatchewan family that was recently involved in a serious collision in southern Alberta.

Brittany Lansdell started the campaign for her friend Debra Mavin and family. After the collision, Mavin's fiancé Taylor Monkman and her son Dalton were flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Calgary, where they have had surgeries for multiple injuries sustained in the collision.

Taylor and Dalton remain in hospital.

According to the campaign, Debra Mavin suffered a broken collarbone in three places. The other children, Brayleigh, Kenny and Henner, only sustained soft-tissue damage.

"Anyone that has the privilege to know this beautiful family knows how amazing they all are. Taylor recently proposed to Debra and they have recently relocated from Whitewood to Torquay so they can all be together," Lansdell wrote.

"This will be a long road to recovery for Dalton and Taylor. This family is always the first one to support anyone in need."

Lansdell wrote that Monkman works very hard to provide for his family as an equipment operator at Westmoreland Mining LLC in Estevan, while Mavin, for many years, has used her talents to take Santa pictures for thousands of kids.

"She is a talented photographer who loves to capture beautiful family moments. Now it is our time to help this family. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated."

Funds raised will be used to cover medical and travel expenses.

In an update, Lansdell said Taylor has a fracture in his C-6 vertebrae in his neck, a fractured ulna in his left arm that will require plates to fix, a broken left hip socket, torn ligaments and tissues in his left knee, a dislocated kneecap, a shattered right ankle and many lacerations. He lost a lot of skin and an open gash will possibly need plastic surgery to repair. His right ankle is shattered. Several surgeries will be needed.

Lansdell went on to say that Dalton had surgery to put a plate and screws in a broken femur. During this surgery, they put his hip back together, put a boot on his opposite broken foot, and put both of his arms in casts. His leg is immobilized. He has several broken ribs that will heal. A neck brace has been removed.

As of Wednesday at noon, the campaign had raised $24,100 of its $25,000 goal, with 223 donations.
