Five award-winning competitors in the Estevan and District Music Festival were given the green light to advance to provincial-level competition last week. Shaylee Foord, an expert brass musician with the ECS senior band and jazz ensemble is joined by vocalist Spencer Warriner and three piano players; Kaylee MacKenzie in the intermediate category and Mikyla Jensen and Britney Alexander in the senior division.
The provincial festival will be staged in Moose Jaw June 3 to 5.
The five promising musicians also captured several other awards at the Estevan festival's wrap-up highlights and award show that was held in the ECS Cafetorium on Tuesday night, April 19.
The Estevan festival has grown in size and stature over the past few years and is now ranked as the third largest music festival in the province.
Photos and outstanding award results will appear in the April 27 edition of The Mercury.
