ROCANVILLE — During their regular meeting last week on March 5, Rocanville town council accepted a correspondence item regarding a precautionary drinking water advisory that went into effect on March 2.
A line break on Ellice Street caused damage to the Blueberry Kitchen, and crews needed to shut off water to the 100 block of Ellice Street as a result.
“We do have our PDWA that came in effect on Sunday, March 2, so we have acknowledged the fact that that is in effect right now, and we’re waiting on the responses and all our tests to come back,” Rocanville’s administrator Tanya Strandlund said.
The advisory only affects buildings on the 100 block of Ellice Street, and the order will be lifted once those water quality tests return with favourable results. In order for the PWDA to be rescinded, two tests taken 24 hours apart must provide adequate results.
Town switching to Conexus
Under new business, council made a decision on the safety deposit box currently at the local TD Bank. With the Rocanville branch set to close this summer, the town has begun the process of moving things over to Conexus Credit Union.
“We have made the resolution to close our security box at the TD and start the process of moving all operating accounts over to Conexus,” said Strandlund. “It makes sense for us due to the fact that we have a lot of cash that moves through here, so we need a local bank, and they are our local bank, and we’re choosing to support them as they’re here.”
TD Canada Trust has noted clients can use their nearest branch in Yorkton.
“It will take a while, so there will be communication going out to residents regarding all of this, but it is going to take a little bit of time to get everything switched over,” Strandlund said.
Watch party excitement
The Rocanville Economic Development Organization continues to gear up for an exciting watch party on March 22. Hosted by REDO at the Rocanville Nutrien Hall, residents are invited to cheer on local hockey hero Jessica Campbell as the Seattle Kraken vs Edmonton Oilers game is on the big screen.
“The watch party is going to be so much fun,” Strandlund said of the family friendly event.
The REDO committee is holding their next meeting on March 13 with the watch party on the agenda, plus the upcoming Rocanville Community Day and a round table discussion. Everyone is welcome to the lunch meeting, and can RSVP by March
