WEYBURN – A Repair Café will be held in Weyburn on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, organized by the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council.
A Repair Café is a pop-up, one-day event where the public can bring in household items to be fixed for free by volunteers offering their knowledge and skills. Repair Cafés encourage residents to consider repairing items rather than throwing them away.
The Weyburn Repair Cafe will have volunteers that can repair clothing and textiles; computers, and small electronics.
If organizers find more volunteers with different skills, more categories can be added.
Attendees can book an appointment at weyburnrepaircafe.setmore.com. Walk-ins are also welcome, but appointments will be prioritized. It also will help organizers know if they need to find more volunteers.
With the help of the sponsor, Affinity Credit Union, the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council is working to spread Repair Cafes across the province. Information about all of the Repair Cafes in the province can be found on their website.
The first Repair Cafe in the province was in Prince Albert in March of 2018. The council started helping to host Repair Cafes later that year, and there have now been over 50 Repair Cafes in Saskatchewan. This is the first such event to be held in Weyburn.
