Estevan Police handles scam involving Sunwing Airlines

Caller claims to be with Sunwing, but wants money in exchange for a refund.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service is advising the public about a scam involving someone claiming to be with Sunwing Airlines.

Police recorded a report on Friday of a scam call regarding somebody claiming to be with Sunwing, calling to offer refunds and then requesting banking information. No data was given. 

The public is reminded to not share private or personal information over the phone to unverified callers.

Also on Friday, as a result of a traffic stop in the 1200-block of Fourth Street, a 37-year-old Regina man has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operation of a conveyance while over .08. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days and his driver’s licence was suspended indefinitely.

Police arrested and charged a 48-year-old Estevan man Thursday with uttering threats to cause bodily harm and failing to comply with a probation order. He was released on conditions of no contact with the victims and not to attend the place of business of the victims. He will appear in court in March to answer to the charges.

Officers attended to a south-end residence Tuesday to a report of an unwanted guest. The guest was welcome in the home so no further police involvement was required.

Police received a report of criminal harassment. The matter is still under investigation.
