Estevan police arrest two on New Year's Eve for Regina robbery

The Estevan Police Service arrested two people on New Year's Eve for a robbery in Regina, and also apprehended one person for assaulting a police officer.

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service responded to a variety of calls on New Year's Eve.

Police received a request from the Regina Police Service to locate a 43-year-old man who lives in Estevan. The Regina Police Service had an arrest warrant for robbery for the individual. He was located and arrested. Efforts will be made to have him remanded in custody and transported to Regina to appear in court on the matter. 

The Regina Police Service also requested that his 30-year-old girlfriend be arrested and remanded to Regina for court on the same charge.

Police learned upon lodging the 43-year-old man that the Saskatoon Police Service also has warrants of arrest for him for assault and breaching his conditions. Efforts will be made to have him remanded and transported to Saskatoon to answer to those charges.

Officers attended to a local liquor establishment to a report of an intoxicated man trying to start fights with patrons. Police attended and the man was intoxicated to the point where he couldn’t care for himself. He was arrested and taken to the police station. During processing for detention for the evening, the 57-year-old Estevan man headbutted one of the officers and is now facing a charge for assaulting a police officer. He will be released when sober to appear in court on the assault charge.

Police attended to a call for mischief to a property and a disturbance in the Pleasantdale area. The matter is still under investigation.

Members attended to an apartment building in the north end for a disturbance. Police were able to mediate a resolution for the evening between the disputing parties.

Police received a report of a break and enter in progress to an apartment. On arrival, police learned it was the resident trying to get into his own place. He was able to get in and no further action was required.

Members attended to a north end apartment building for a report of a tenant causing a disturbance in the hallways.  Police located a 31-year-old Estevan woman unconscious on her balcony. Police were unable to get her to respond so EMS was called and transported her to hospital.

Police checked a total of 26 vehicles in traffic stops on New Year's Eve and reported all the drivers were responsible and sober.

Members attended to a local hotel on Dec. 30 as an individual called for assistance after falling on the ice. Police attended and Estevan EMS was requested to assess the individual. The person was transported to the hospital by EMS for further examination.

Police attended a commercial panic alarm on Dec. 29 at a local business. The alarm company indicated there was an individual on site but the person didn’t know the pass code to cancel the alarm. Police attended and determined the individual is a staff member of the business.

Police received a report of a disturbance outside a local liquor establishment. One of two individuals involved in the disturbance had left prior to police arriving. The other party was spoken to and sent home in a taxi.
