Estevan police make arrests for assault, theft and drug possession

The Estevan Police Service made arrests for assault, mischief, drug possession and more during the five days from Dec. 22-26.

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service had a variety of calls from Dec. 22-26, as they dealt with 96 occurrences.

On Dec. 22, police attended three times to the same apartment building in south Estevan to reports of loud music and individuals creating unnecessary noise. Initially the property owner was warned under the noise bylaw. Police had to return two more occasions, and the property owner was issued two tickets under the bylaw, amounting to $750 in fines. The property owner was also arrested and lodged in cells for the evening.

Police then attended to an apartment building in the north end for a report of loud Christmas music. The property owner was warned under the bylaw.

Officers received a report of a dispute between two parties that could be heard over the phone by a third party. Police were advised the dispute was happening in a vehicle that was being around. Members located the vehicle and ended up transporting one of the parties to connect them to other services in the community. Through mediation, the matter was resolved.

Police received a report of theft of property. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received a report of a historic assault that had occurred in Estevan. The matter was reported to another police service and was forwarded to Estevan to be investigated.

Police were called to a report of mischief to property. The victim’s vehicle had been damaged by spray paint. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received a report of theft from a local business. A 38-year-old Estevan man was subsequently arrested and has been charged and released for court.

Police were called to a city core apartment building for a report of a dispute and property being damaged. Members attended and spoke to the parties. One had left for the evening.

Officers received a report of somebody uttering threats. Upon attempting to investigate the matter, the complainant became non-co-operative. Police made extra patrols in the area of the complainant's residence to assist in their security.

Police received a report of mischief to property. A tenant in a local apartment building was reported to be tampering with the utilities. The matter is still under investigation.

Members arrested a 39-year-old man for breaching his conditions by being in a liquor establishment. Upon arrest the male was found to be in possession of meth and subsequently charged and released for court.

Police received a complaint of a train engine parked and running, disturbing nearby residents. The train company was contacted and the complainant was also given the contact number for the train company to lodge a complaint with them.

Officers received a report of a vehicle being driven on the ball diamonds in south Estevan. Police attended and determined it wasn’t on the diamonds but in the parking lot. The vehicle was not located but the public is encouraged to continue to report these types of matters.

Police received a report of an assault. Officers attended and spoke to the parties involved. The matter is still under investigation.

Members received a request to assist in locating a 17-year-old youth. The individual was located and put in contact with his family. No further police action was required.

Police received a report of a suspicious male near a business in the east end. Police made patrols and later located and identified the male. He was sent on his way.

Officers attended to a loud stereo complaint in an apartment building in north Estevan. The property owner was warned and complied with turning down the stereo.

Police were called to a residence in the west end for a disturbance.  Police attended and spoke to the two parties living there and mediated a resolution. They didn’t need any other available services.

Members attended to a disturbance in the 1200-block of Fourth Street. Both parties involved in the dispute were arrested. A 44-year-old Estevan man was charged with mischief to property. A 21-year-old man was initially held in custody for breaching his conditional sentence order.

The EPS received a report of an assault. Police attended and initially arrested a 28-year-old Estevan woman for assault and outstanding warrants. She was later released for court.

Police arrested a 39-year-old Estevan man for breaching his no-contact conditions. He was later released for court.

Members received a report from a responsible business indicating an individual was in their store to purchase iTunes and gift cards several days in a row. Police spoke to the individual, who is being scammed. Police remind the public that if you are being asked to prepay for items or services with gift cards the transaction is a scam.
