City of Weyburn to observe Nat’l Day for Truth and Reconciliation

WEYBURN - The Government of Canada recently passed legislation marking Thursday, Sept. 30, as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The City of Weyburn will officially observe this day to recognize and commemorate the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools as part of the reconciliation process and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

To honour the importance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the City of Weyburn civic offices will be closed on Sept. 30, including City Hall and the Public Works building.

Area 1 refuse pickup for Thursday, Sept. 30 will be moved to Friday, Oct. 1. Area 2 pickup will also be that day.

The Weyburn Leisure Centre, Crescent Point Place and Tom Zandee Sports Arena will be open to user group programming on Sept. 30 in the evening.

The City of Weyburn is committed to reconciliation and building a relationship through dialogue with the Indigenous community to ensure that Weyburn is an inclusive community that respects their history, traditions and culture.
