REGINA — The mother involved in the Amber Alert incident in Regina on Sunday has been arrested and charged.
Kerry Lynn Keewatin, of Regina, age 36, is charged with failing to comply with condition of release order, abduction of a person under 16 and kidnapping, all criminal code offences.
She was scheduled to make her first appearance in provincial court Monday afternoon in Regina.
Keewatin and her two-year-old son had been the subject of the Amber Alert issued on Sunday afternoon. According to Regina Police, the incident began on Sunday, Aug. 7, at about 4:40 a.m. when they were dispatched to the 1100 block of 13th Avenue.
The initial information indicated a woman, known to the resident, had come to the house, wanting to leave with her two-year-old son. According to police, she was on a condition not to have contact with the resident of the house and did not have legal custody of the child.
Police began investigation immediately and learned the woman and child had gone to hospital briefly, but they left on foot when staff became suspicious.
At 3:40 p.m., with help of Saskatchewan RCMP, an Amber Alert was issued. At 5:36 p.m., the suspect was arrested by police at a residence on the 300 block of Rose Street, with the two-year-old child recovered unharmed.
Regina Police Service is thanking both the public and the media for their role in achieving a positive outcome in this investigation.
