The Assiniboia and District Chamber of Commerce held its Lunch and Learn on February 23, which was sponsored by B & A Petroleum. Cheryl DeNeire from the Town of Assiniboia鈥檚 Recreation Department spoke on planning for Canada 150 celebrations in Assiniboia and the Canada 150 Committee plans to date.
DeNeire noted that Canada Day 150 celebrations take place throughout the year from January 1 to the end of the year, and not just on July 1 Canada Day.
The Canada Day 150 planning committee met in January to initiate planning and will be meeting in March to confirm activities. The committee hopes to create a poster for distribution featuring all of the Canada 150 events in the community. She distributed minutes from the meeting and sought out ideas and feedback from the business community gathered at the Chamber.
The Town of Assiniboia plans to hold its Canada 150 celebration on Saturday, July 1 as part of its traditional Canada Day activities. The committee has confirmed several events for this day. The day begins with a pancake breakfast followed by a parade. There will be the annual chilli cook off between the emergency services as well as the Demolition Derby organized by the 麻豆传媒AVern Cruisers in the afternoon.
Some of the family-centred activities include free public swimming and games for children in the afternoon. There will also be evening fireworks with a Canada 150 theme. Other groups in the community have planned events with Canada 150 as the theme.
The community choir has a concert on Sunday, May 7. The Assiniboia and District Arts Council is bringing in the Leisa Way 鈥淥h Canada We Sing For Thee鈥 concert on Friday, September 29, and the Ethnic Jubilee is being organized for Saturday, September 30.
More information about Canada 150 events and activities will be published as the details are confirmed.
