ASSINIBOIA - Another temporary service disruption in Assiniboia has shut down the town’s emergency services for 12 hours each day.
Assiniboia Union Hospital’s (AUH) emergency department will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day for the foreseeable future.
“Since last August our Town Council and administrative management have been working and meeting in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), our local MLA David Marit’s office and the provincial government in order to come up with a resolution/solutions to our ongoing disruptions at our facility, which is very concerning to all,” said Mayor Sharon Schauenberg. “We most recently met last week as we discussed the temporary everyday disruptions. We are hopeful that plans and actions for solutions are taking place to produce positive results for in the nearest foreseeable future.”
In a statement, the SHA said ER services will be fully restored as soon as the human resource challenges are addressed. “Ensuring safe care for residents is the SHA’s primary concern. The current staffing shortages are the result of a number of factors including COVID-19 and retirements. said SHA media relations David Freeman.
“Recruitment to address the staff shortages required to support the safe operation of Assiniboia Union Hospital emergency department is ongoing,”
“The SHA is committed to restoring 24/7 services to the emergency room in the community of Assiniboia as soon as we can address the human resource challenges we are currently facing and will continue to update residents as information becomes available. As always, a disruption in services at any facility in the province can be found on our website,” added SHA media relations David Freeman.
Residents are being asked to call 911 in case of serious emergencies and for minor emergencies people are being asked to go to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg or Dr. F.H. Wigmore Hospital in Moose Jaw.
