CARLYLE - Maureen Arthur is a laser therapist who has practised out of the Lotus Tree office in Carlyle since 2016.

She and her husband Neil live on an acreage three kilometres north of Oxbow. They have three children and six grandchildren.

Maureen Arthur was born and raised in Oxbow and Neil in Alida, and they moved to Wainwright, Alta., in 2000. She was employed in long-term care for a number of years before graduating with an advanced certificate in massage therapy in 2008.

While in Alberta, Arthur was introduced to low-intensity laser therapy and obtained her certificate thru the Northern Institute of Massage Therapy in Red Deer. They returned to Saskatchewan in 2008 and she has been in practice since that time.

Low light laser therapy is highly effective on its own and many health professionals such as chiropractors, physical therapists and massage therapists incorporate it into their treatment plans. Many people associate laser with surgical procedures but the process is non-invasive and non-toxic.

The technology uses monochromatic light emissions to treat all sorts of muscle injuries, chronic and degenerative conditions, and to heal wounds. It allows the photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various muscles and restores normal cell function and enhancement of the body’s healing processes.

Low intensity laser therapy (LILT) can be used to treat a various number of sports injuries including ligament and muscle tears, sprains, and contusions. LILT can be used for relief from repetitive stress injuries such as carpal tunnel, rotator cuff, and tennis elbow. Numerous arthritic conditions can be treated as can headaches, migraines, herniated discs and fibromyalgia. Laser therapy can also relieve various dermatology issues such as acne, eczema, and scar tissue.

Laser treatments take between 30 minutes and one hour, depending on the condition being treated. Unlike most pharmaceutical solutions and other therapeutic options, laser therapy has no significant adverse effects. Arthur operates her practice using BioFlex laser therapy. It was developed by Dr. Fred Kahn, a vascular reconstructive surgeon from Toronto.

The BioFlex devices are unique, featuring flexible arrays, standard disease-specific protocols, and are able to address many challenging conditions. Many professional sports trainers use Bioflex as part of their rehabilitation programs.

Arthur is continuing her training through the Bioflex advanced certificate training program online. She is rapidly increasing her knowledge of various dermatology issues and the aging process in general.
