Many kids took advantage of the opportunity to go trick or treating without a need to wear a winter coat over their costume at Mainprize Regional Park.

ESTEVAN - Mainprize Regional Park hosted their fourth annual Halloween in the Park on Aug. 7.

Donna Frank with the park said the event turned out to be really successful.

"We've done a little bit better year after year. This is our fourth year running Halloween in the Park. We probably had about 90 to 100 kids going out trick or treating," Frank said.

Quite a few campers joined the event, handing out treats and making an August Halloween feel like the real deal.

"It has become a very popular event. And the kids love it," Frank said.

The big advantage to a summer version of the Day of the Dead was that kids could show off their costumes without putting coats, hats and scarves on.

"People were able to dress up as mermaids and things like that. Lots of cute costumes," Frank said.

Following a day of trick or treating, the park showed the movie Raya and the Last Dragon. Frank added that they do their best to make any experience in the park exceptional for their guests.

"We do have a bylaw that allows golf carts to drive through the park. So the transportation was mostly golf carts taking the kids around," Frank said.

So far Mainprize Regional Park has been having a busy summer. They have had a 10-20 per cent increase in their number of campers and golfers this year in comparison to 2020, and they've been keeping busy with various activities offered to people staying in the park and the surrounding communities alike.

The most popular events this summer were laser tag, mini-golf, crafts and scavenger hunts, and, of course, golfing events.

"We're trying to do something every weekend," Frank said. "Our attendance at the park is definitely up. And (all events) are for people in the surrounding area to come and enjoy as well. You don't have to live here to come to any events that we advertise."

Coming up Mainprize park has a kids' class and stuff for adults on Aug. 21 and a fun day with bouncy castles and a hot dog lunch on Aug. 28.

"It really has been a great summer and people are happy that they were able to come and enjoy the outdoors. And our campgrounds are available for people to book in the future if they'd like to come and enjoy the park," Frank said.
