A Midale resident recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
Norma Barber turned 100 on July 17. A resident of Mainprize Manor, her family and friends joined her to mark the occasion on July 17 at the 39ers Senior Centre in Midale. A 100th birthday party was held for her at Mainprize Manor the day before.
Barber was born in Scottsguard, Sask., on July 17, 1921. She was the youngest of eight children born to Ernest and Ida McIlmoyl. Barber was educated through Grade 12 in Frobisher.
She worked in Oxbow, where she met her husband Melvin Barber. They moved to North Portal where Melvin worked with the Canada Border Services Agency.
They had two sons and now have three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Norma’s secret to long life is to not think about being old, and to just keep getting up and going.
